World Series Game 7 Draws 51 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total over 50 million spectators across the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this is the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic game secured 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% increase over the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth place.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game averaged over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the complete American average reached 16.1M. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09M watchers, an eight percent increase over last year and Fox’s best playoff performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 media partners in 16 various languages.
