Presence Film
The acclaimed director tests his film-making abilities in this innovative paranormal narrative captured wholly from the perspective of a ghost. As a family with Lucy Liu as Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe occupies their fresh home, the camera – as the unseen entity – tracks their movements. The teen shows signs of conscious of the poltergeist, and it looks like protective of her. However, the motive remains? It's a fun idea that avoids overstaying, with a twist you might not see coming. This Saturday, afternoon and evening times, Sky Cinema Premiere

The Black Phone
Derrickson's contained scarefest remains effective without requiring a follow-up. Taking place in the late 70s in Denver, multiple kidnappings has made the children anxious. When Finney is kidnapped by “the Grabber” and locked up in a dungeon, he anticipates a fatal end. Yet the old telephone mounted nearby keeps ringing, with ghostly voices giving advice, while the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister could save him. A genuinely scary movie. October 11th, 10.50pm, the Film4 channel
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the struggle between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for greed in Michael Showalter's wonderfully garish biopic regarding the shamed religious broadcaster and her felon spouse. Andrew Garfield portrays the corrupt Bakker, who states at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. He and Tammy Faye set about monetising the people's Christian beliefs. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, excessive cosmetics and bad faith, yet Chastain succeeds to show the character with compassion. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, Film4
